Aysén, clima y flora no mediterránea

Hacia finales de Diciembre he viajado a la XI región de Chile, una zona muy extendida (108.000 km2) y poco poblada (103.000 personas). El clima es frío oceánico de bajas temperaturas, con abundantes precipitaciones, fuertes vientos y mucha humedad. Si bien he recorrido una pequeña parte de la región he admirado sus bosques densos y bajos, sus lagos y lagunas, los fiordos y los glaciares. La presencia estable del hombre es de corta data: los primeros asentamientos corresponden al inicio del siglo XX, sin embargo su mano devastadora ha dejado huellas importantes, como los efectos de los incendios de los años 30 del siglo pasado que han arrasado 3.000.000 de hectáreas, o la sobreexplotación de la madera en algunos sectores y en otros los impactos de la ganadería. Sin embargo, la belleza de los ecosistemas de Aysén es sobrecogedora y merece una visita para ver parte de las riquezas biológicas de esta apartada zona de Chile.

Aysén, non-Mediterranean climate & flora

By the end of December, I travelled to the Chilean region XI, a widespread area (108,000 km2) and little populated (103,000 people). The climate is oceanic cold with low temperatures, abundant rainfall, strong winds and high humidity. Although I've covered a small part of the region I have admired their low and dense forests, lakes and lagoons, fjords and glaciers. The stable presence of man is short data: the first settlements corresponds to the beginning of the 20th century, however his devastating activities have left important traces, such as the effects of forest fires in the thirties of the past century that destroyed 3,000,000 hectares, or the over-exploitation of timber in some sectors and the impacts of livestock in others. However, the beauty of the Aysen’s ecosystems is overwhelming and is worth a visit to see part of the biological wealth of this secluded area of Chile.
