Arbusto endémico de Chile. Crece en laderas secas, a pleno sol, entremezclado con otros arbustos como colliguayes y corontillos, entre Coquimbo y Maule. Arbusto perenne dioico, de hasta 4 m de altura, de tallos ascendentes con hojas ovaladas ásperas al tacto. En La Aurora, se observa en el Camino Panorámico y en laderas de exposición norte.

Florece en primavera. El fruto es un aquenio con una semilla y sin vilano que madura en verano. Es una planta de crecimiento rápido, al segundo año alcanza alrededor de 1 m de altura e inicia floración. Necesita alta luminosidad, poca agua y suelos con buen drenaje, ideal para jardines que requieren poca agua. Es ornamental por follaje y flores.

Endemic shrub to Chile. It grows on dry slopes, in full sun, interspersed with other shrubs, like colliguayes and corontillos between Coquimbo and Maule. Dioecious perennial shrub, up to 4 m tall, with ascending stems with oval leaves rough to the touch. In La Aurora, it can be seen on the Panoramic Road and on the northern slopes.

It blooms in spring. The fruit is an achene with a seed and no thistledown that ripens in summer. It is a fast-growing plant, reaching around 1 m in height in the second year and starting flowering. It needs high luminosity, little water and well-draining soils, ideal for gardens that require little water. It is ornamental by foliage and flowers.
