Árbol endémico de Chile, crece desde Coquimbo a Biobío, desde el litoral a la precordillera, en lugares asoleados, tanto secos como húmedos con buen drenaje y materia orgánica. En La Aurora, se observa en el Camino Las Maritatas y en el Camino Panorámico, con ejemplares afectados por la sequía que todavía vuelven a retoñar parcialmente.

Es un árbol perenne que alcanza los 5 m de altura, dioico, con tronco ceniciento y ramas tortuosas. Las hojas son ovaladas, de borde aserrado, verde claro por la haz y verde plateadas por el envés. Las flores masculinas se disponen en corimbos y las femeninas son solitarias, ambas son blancas.

Es ornamental por su follaje y flores. Se aprovecha como arbusto o arbolito por el hermoso contraste de sus hojas semiplateadas con las hojas verde oscuras de otras plantas, pudiendo ubicarse aislado o en grupos. Es fácil de propagar por semillas en otoño.

Endemic tree of Chile, growing from Coquimbo to Biobío, from the coast to the Andes foothills, in sunny places, both dry and humid with good drainage and organic matter. In La Aurora, can be seen near the Maritatas Road as well as on the Panoramic Road, with specimens affected by the drought some of which are sprouting again.

It is an evergreen, up to 5 m tall, dioecious tree with an ashen trunk and tortuous branches. The leaves are oval, with a serrated edge, light green on the upper side and silvery green on the underside. The male flowers are arranged in corymbs and the female flowers are solitary, both are white.

It is ornamental thanks to its foliage and flower, it is used as a shrub or sapling that makes a beautiful contrast with its semi-silvery leaves against other species with dark green leaves, and can be planted in isolation or in groups. It is easily propagated by seed in autumn.
