Endémica de Chile. Crece desde Coquimbo al Biobío y desde la costa hasta la precordillera, en terrenos secos o algo húmedos, pero con buen drenaje; o en laderas a pleno sol.

Es un arbusto perenne, de hasta 3 m de alto por 2,5 de diámetro, de ramas primero descendentes y luego decumbentes. Florece desde el invierno hasta comienzos del verano, con racimos de flores amarillas, de 3 cm de longitud. El fruto es un lomento, con 4 a 5 semillas de color café madura durante el verano y otoño.

Es ornamental por follaje y flor. Se le puede dar poda arbustiva o arbórea. Florece en invierno por lo que es más valiosa, al haber pocos arbustos en floración. Es resistente a plagas y enfermedades; tolera sequías, heladas y nieve. Crece en cualquier suelo de pH neutro o levemente ácido, con buen drenaje; necesita poco riego.

Endemic to Chile. It grows from the Coquimbo to the Biobío Regions and from the coastal ranges to the Andean foothills, in dry or somewhat humid terrain, but with good drainage; or on slopes in full sun. It is a perennial shrub, up to 3 m high by 2.5 in diameter, with branches first descending and then decumbent. It blooms from winter to early summer, with clusters of yellow flowers, 3 cm in length. The fruit is a lomentum, with 4 to 5 brown seeds that ripen during the summer and autumn.

It is ornamental because of its foliage and flowers. It may be pruned as a shrub or a tree. It starts blooming in winter which makes it more valuable because at that time there are few shrubs in bloom. It is resistant to pests and diseases; tolerates drought, frost and snow. It grows in any soil of neutral or slightly acidic pH, with good drainage, and needs little watering.
